This is a real question that actually pertains to me instead of just ####-stirring for page views:

A few weeks ago I had a man I was interested in over for dinner. He brought a bottle of wine. For whatever reason, we did not drink this wine and it's been laying in my little booze nook ever since.

I am no longer interested in this man other than friendship, but have possibly become interested in a different man. I will be feeding him this week on a getting-to-know-you fact-finding expedition.

Would it be tacky to open the wine the other guy brought me and drink it with this guy? He'll probably bring a bottle because that appears to be what guys do when you offer to feed them, but should I get a new bottle just in case or can I use the existing bottle for backup?

ehhh... save the bottle for another time... Why would you want his taste on your menu?

....or, you could just give it to me...

If it's a good wine, drink it with dinner unless the gentleman coming for dinner brings you a different wine. If he knows the menu, he'll know what wine to bring. Other than that, drink up. :otter:

Fortunately, the rules of ettiquete for gifts of food don't work like gifts of jewelry, etc.

AND....I'm positive the current beau won't care~

Exactly. It is a bottle of wine. Period. Wine is meant to be consumed. When someone hands you a bottle of wine it is truly your choice as to when to consume it. There is no sentimental significance of said consumable. Consume away.

P.S. And another thing...
Any woman who puts sentimental ties on a bottle of wine just because a man who could be potential mate brings it to dinner, is too mentally fra-g-ile to be dating and should stick to romance novels and battery operated boyfriends...

Got it :yay: I'll have to think of some lie in case he says, "This is a really good wine, where'd you get it?"

Nah, keep it. If the new guy has class he will bring his own.
