Good Morning all! :howdy:
Just wanted to ask if anyone knew of GREAT daycare providers or babysitters in St. Mary's or Calvert Counties? I work at Pax River and I am pregnant trying to find a good day care provide for this little baby since many people have been telling me about long waiting lists and I am a planner I’d like to get things rolling now so its one less last minute thing i need to stress over. I would appreciate anyone's opinion. Thank you!

I've been with a in-home provider for the past 7 yrs. PM me if you're interested. She's in Calvert County (CRE to be exact).

If you are looking in Calvert, try here: CCFDCA - Parent's Page
If you email them, an email will be sent out to about 90% of licensed daycare providers in Calvert asking if they have openings.

You can also call the Southern Maryland Child Care Resource Center at 301-290-0045 for a list.

Word of the wise, sometimes it's hard to transfer kids into different school zones.
I know it seems far away now but take that into consideration when picking a center.
I hated having our daughter start a new daycare and start school at the same time.
Too many changes.

True, but she's looking for an infant slot. They are few and far between. It'd be great to get one in her school district, but so much can change in 5 years. She could move, the daycare provider could move. The average burnout rate of a child care provider is about 2 years, so lots of them quit. Some daycare providers won't take both preschoolers and schoolage children (it helps stop the burnout having only one or the other).

The most important thing is to find out who will have a spot available when she needs it, then of those, who does she like most. It'd be nice to find someone you really, really like and hope they have the spot when you need it, but chances are that won't happen.

St. Mary's Day Care Association toyed with the idea of doing something like it, but for some reason, someone got a bee in their bonnet about being sued. They got the idea that if someone obtained a name through the organization and the provider turned out to be a bad egg, the organization could be sued. Also, St. Mary's Association is not terribly organized. In Calvert, about 175 out of 190 providers in the county are members of the day care association, while in St. Mary's, they have about 50 members out of about 250 countywide.

Charles County Day Care Association used to advertise on the radio that they had such a service. I'm not sure how they work theirs though.
