Daycare Question

My son will be 2 soon and I asked my provider how much my rate will be once he turns 2. ( I pay $150 a week now) She replied that that rate won't go down until he goes to all day school.

I was under the impression it goes down either when they turn 2 or are potty trained. Am I wrong?

Depends on the provider. I pay $155 per week for a 2 year old.

Ours went down once they turned 2, and again when they go to all-day school. It stinks if they charge you the same for an infant and a preschooler.

Mine stayed the same ($100/wk) until pre-school. Then $65/wk since she only has him from 12-3pm and I provide the lunch. Once in all day school, $20/day for the days we need her (days off from school and summer). My youngest is starting pre-school next month and oldest only goes to her during the summer/days off.

In my experience, I have only had the rate go down when the children are at school all day. It never depended on the age or whether they were potty trained.

It depends on the provider but in my experience it went down when each of them turned two and then again upon starting school.

Really?
Every one I've spoke to said it went down after either or, but I guess each provider is different.

It sounds like your provider didn't charge you extra for an infant and that you are only being charged the fee for an "all day" slot.

I think $150 is high for an all day spot. I pay $130 for mine in California and will only be paying $135 in Lusby for a woman who is in the process of opening up a center. Kris pays $155 for a center.

Hmm never thought about it that way.

Now say if I were to have another one, should I expect to be charged for another "all day" slot? (hypothetically)

I don't mind paying the $150 for an infant but an infant and 4 year old who is there all day don't require the same amount of work.

The $155 in a center for a 2 year is good. Especially if it's something like Prep N Play or such.

Mmmmmkkkk.

Again... it sounds like her provider has a set fee for "all day" and then a set fee for "part time". Each provider is different. The pricing system should be reflected in the contract and not a surprise...

True but I think $150 for an all day spot is high was my point.

Each daycare can be different. Some do charge a flat rate per slot and don't discount for multiples. Discounts for multiples are usually noted in the contract if a discount is given.

As was already said, it depends on the provider. It could be "per spot" as K said, it could be that they raised their rates (most are doing that now with prices of everything else going up) but chose not to raise your infant rate, just to decrease it again when he turned 2.
