Hi,

We are considering Robyns Nest, Imaginations, Charles County County daycare in La Plata, New Horizons in Waldorf and a couple of in-home providers.

Can anyone please let me know the good and bad of the above (we have interviews scheduled next week)? Any positive or negative experiences?

Thanks!!!!!

You are all really helpful

When my daughter was about 3/4 I had her in New Horizons. She was there for a very short period of time - only a few months. I didn't agree with the way they handled things and I didn't care for them much. They could have changed over the years though.

:roflmao: At first, I thought you were saying three quarters.

If you're child were older I'd reccomend Happy Faces (disclaimer-I'm related to the owner) but she only takes 2 yrs +.

My daughter has been going to Robyn's Nest since she turned 1. She took her first steps there - they got her off the binky - and now they're a HUGE help in potty training. My one nephew went there until he started Kindergarden, and my other nephew is currently there - as are my cousins 2 girls. The teacher in the Infant's Room is GREAT! I was sad when my daughter turned 2 and had to move over - but the teacher there is great with her as well!

The owner is very easy to talk to and whenever I've had an issue I've had no problems with talking to her. The only one I don't care for is the owner's son - teenage boy who helps with the older kids (I've never seen him with the infants). My main gripe is that I've never seen him interact with the kids - but I've also never seen him alone with the kids, so I let that one go.

Other than that - unless I move - I plan to have my daughter there through the before and after school program!

PS - I have absolutely no affiliations with the school or anyone who works there! I'm just a mom who loves having a place where I can leave my daughter and not have to worry if she's being taken care of - after all, she spends more of waking time there than with me, so I like that they treat her like one of their own. I also agree with Chasey that a suprise visit is a good thing! On occasion I pop in early and still have yet to see anything bad!

If you have only spoken with them on the phone I would advise you to go to EVERY daycare within your range and you will KNOW what feels right. I must have gone to 10 daycares before I walked in and just felt "this is it". That's the only way to really get a feel. Even one you think you may like, you'll be surprised when you really don't and one you think you may not like could be the one! Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback! My only problem is it's going to be a tight squeeze getting there by 6pm, might be more like 6.10pm. what is their late policy?

Their handbook says something like $1 for each minute - but they're pretty cool, so I'm not sure they'd be total sticklers for it - I'd just ask them when you go up there.

I would assume that this does not mean that she may be 10 minutes late EVERY day. The daycare workers have lives too.

Warning!

Would warn anyone with a child under 5 against using Wendy Green's daycare in Calvert (CRE). She can not handle young children who do more than grunt and watch TV. She is in this business for the money and nothing more. I know this from experience. Our children had the same provider for 2 years with no problem but she had to close her business due to her FIL moving in. We went to Ms. Green's daycare. In three months she was "crying herself to sleep at night and crying during their naps". What??? We have since returned to our original daycare (she re-opened and asked us to come back). Original daycare doesn't know what Ms. Green is talking about. So I ask you, is the problem my kids or Ms. Green's inability to handle small children?:banghead:
