Daycare

I know this has been posted on here a million times but does anyone have the resource center website for daycare in St. Marys?

Also, I have to interview daycare providers and since I've never done that before, can anyone suggest questions to ask or things to look for?
TIA!

Hours, cost, nap time, snacks, activities, how many kids currently attend and ask for a current reference PLUS historical ones. Don't forget to ask about vacation/holiday/personal time off, plus hours of operation if school is closed.

I asked for the references when I got my day care lady..She told me everything else. I think if they are a good provider than they communicate very well. I went with an in home day care for my little man(5 months).

Good luck..Day care is hard to find in this area!

Questions to definately ask:

1. What is your nap time schedule? What do the school agers do during this time when they are home?

2. What is your weather policy as far as taking them outside?

3. what is your punishment policy for not listening, hitting, picking on each other, throwing things, etc... your child may not do this but believe me others do and you want to know how she plans to handle those instances. I had to pull my baby from a daycare because her own child (who was 2 1/2) had been throwing toys, hitting, and bitting...

4. Ask about food policy and what she expects.

5. Ask about taking off and calling out and does she have anything in writing with how much time she is closed.

6. Ask her what is the worst behavior she has ever encountered and how she dealt with it?

7. Ask her about how much early childhood background she has. What kind of workshops has she taken and look around her house to see how dedicated she is to the kids.

oh also ask for references and see her reaction .... even if you decide not to follow up with them ask for them anyway. She should be able to give you at least 5 people.

I'd be surprised to hear you have that many providers with an opening for your kid to chose from...:ohwell:

Right now I have 2 interviews set up and a couple of maybes that I'm waiting to hear back from. So there are options but I want to make sure they are the right options. Infant spaces are hard to find.

I called one center that wanted $40 just to put him on the waiting list.

Wow, I am so glad I don't have to deal with all that! "Back in the day" we just found a good babysitter.

Unless they guarantee a slot and start date I wouldn't pay that.
I also would take that as an indication of many "charges" to come.
Like multiple registration fees, activity fees and such.

I agree with other's that of you have to put money down on the waiting list... there may be many other costs later. Why should you have to give them anything to wait? Your name just goes in a file with everyone else waiting...
