Michigan judge sentences deadbeat dads to watch Maury Povich

The studio audience isn't alone in cheering for Maury Povich.

A Michigan judge, inspired by watching the syndicated talk show "Maury," has sentenced several dozen men so far this year to watch the show as part of their probation for overdue child support. The defendants must watch the show and discuss episodes with their probation officer.

I've never seen a Maury show. I must lead a sheltered life. I'm more of a Jerry Springer fan...

I think that might work on some deadbeat parents, but I believe the court system should do more that that and / or jail for some! There are parents out there that owe 50,000.+ dollars to their kids and the courts do nothing about it. I don't think ANY tv show would help with that!

I personally only know of one situation. Thw wife & baby are in MD struggling and the deadbeat dad is in Chicago. She was being nice because she knew his financial situation. It has gotten better and now I'm trying to light a fire under her to go after the $$$.

I agree watching a TV is stupid. A little time on the chain-gang might provide these deadbeats with the proper incentive to take their responsibility a bit more serious.
