I've never dealt with a deaf pup before, but I did meet a deaf cat once. She had a name, though it didn't matter to her. It was freaky when the cat would make the "meow" motion, but never made any "meow" sound when she tried to "talk" to us.
She can't be off a leash unless we are in the back yard. because if she runs off, how are you going to yell in sign?Originally posted by justhangn
I wouldn't worry about it, but what are you going to do if the dog attacks someone??

Like cats acknowledge when you call their name.

I was assured that my dog is deaf, but she clearly is not. She hears the doorbell, dogs barking on TV, all kinds of 'aural' events that occur absent of visual clues. But she does bark REALLY loud, scares other dogs when she is trying to play!

Helen Keller had a name.
Of course she should have a name, just for ease at the vet's office if anything.
