I wouldn't worry about it, but what are you going to do if the dog attacks someone??

I've never dealt with a deaf pup before, but I did meet a deaf cat once. She had a name, though it didn't matter to her. It was freaky when the cat would make the "meow" motion, but never made any "meow" sound when she tried to "talk" to us.

Like cats acknowledge when you call their name. :roflmao:

She can't be off a leash unless we are in the back yard. because if she runs off, how are you going to yell in sign?

Exactly my point. You've met my Shephard, a great dog by all accounts, but sometimes she will bolt after something and without being able to call her off, it may get ugly.

Both of mine do - they know when they respond to that sound, they will get attention and someone to pet them. One of my cats used to practically gallop to the sound of his name.

I was assured that my dog is deaf, but she clearly is not. She hears the doorbell, dogs barking on TV, all kinds of 'aural' events that occur absent of visual clues. But she does bark REALLY loud, scares other dogs when she is trying to play!
thanks archimedes  good read

Helen Keller had a name.

Of course she should have a name, just for ease at the vet's office if anything.

I've just been having that kind of naming luck lately. My foster dog Sarah is being adopted by a woman who's daughter's name is Sara.
