Howard Dean On Fox News Sunday: Your Coverage Is "Shockingly Biased"

"During an appearance on Fox News Sunday this morning, Democratic Party chairman Howard Dean said that Fox's news coverage has at times been "shockingly biased, and I think that's wrong and I just say so right up front." Dean also said he agreed with the netroots campaign to boycott the Democratic debates on the network."

What else did anyone expect Howard Dean to say. Fox gave him a forum and he shat on them. Whats new?.

They're all biased. I seriously doubt someone with strong left-wing opinions can see bias when news reporting reflects his own views.

Similarly I've seen credible accounting for reporting that is racist and bigoted, the most blatant of which was the reports of looting during Katrina, where blacks were described as "looting" supplies while whites were described as "finding" supplies. When compared side by side, you can see it, but no one notices it much - unless you're black and are experienced with being on the wrong side of racism.

By the way, "fair and balanced" in no way implies no bias, nor is it intended to. In fact, it's worded that way partly to account for clear bias. I've heard pundits and journalists, Sam Donaldson in particular, clearly declare that it is ok to show bias IF YOU ARE FAIR in the way you treat the news. Balanced just means that when possible - because some folks won't appear on Fox - they present both sides, something other networks don't even try to do with many of their programs.
