Defense firms confirm layoff warnings

I can appreciate the worrying part, too. I think it's normal to fear losing the ability to provide for our loved ones. It's hard to get zen on that, even if I sound like I am. I try not to worry too much, and I know I'd be okay if we fell on hard times, but I still worry. I just don't really 'stress' about it.

Find your zen.
I get my 'zen' from getting physical... I've started my high-power 4 mile walks again and it puts me in a good place. I'm going to pick up my Zumba dancing again too. My stresses elevate when I let life get in the way with finding time to workout. When I grow up, I want to get get formal training and become a fitness instructor. I can imagine nothing better than spending the day leading classes and circuit training...

But alas, I sit at a desk all day...:ohwell:

Had a coversation with my 20 yr old son recently where I was going on and on about my high stress level from being a contractor and that I carry the insurance coverage for our family, his dad's business is dependent on a growing economy and that we are only 7 years away from paying the house off, but what if... etc. His response was, "So what if we lose it all and we have to start over again living in somebody's basement for a while... we still have each other and doesn't that count more?" He stopped me in my tracks. And I do admit... hearing him say that and understanding his point took a whole lot of pressure off my shoulders.
You have awesome children, Kwillia! :yay:

Ahhh...sequestration. A perfect example of why budget "plans" that run for decades are completely worthless. It goes a little something like this:

People: Government is spending too much! :jameo:
Government: We'll enact a plan to cut spending 10 years from now and everything will be ok.
Ten years later
People: :jameo: You can't cut this spending!
Government: Ok, we'll change the law and spend some more!

I am sure the Great Stenny will come to the rescue. Or at least tell you he will tell you he will so you will vote for him

How many votes will be lost or gained if they go out? The W.H. sent notifications to most defense contractors asking them not to send out sequestration warnings and to wait because it could cause unwarranted negative reactions
They don't want anything getting out that will negatively affect our current President who, if I remember correctly, has the highest job losses on record... The worse they get, the worse the economy will get.. adding to the problem of getting him re-elected,

He wants a do-over... Remember..

Unwarranted? It is quite warranted. All the defense contractors that feel like they will be laying people off in this or next year should send warnings out. Put some fire under the ass of congress, just because an election is coming up they don't want to do anything to avoid stepping on anyone's toes. If this administration wants to prove anything to the voters it should show it can be effective at all times.
:killingme

That's funny right there, don't care who you are.

I'd settle for being somewhat competent, some of the time. In other than the "let's destroy American in 4 years or less" kind of way, that is.

I have to be constantly reminded that I need to let stresses go that I have no control over... he takes the mode of "If we break it, we'll fix it." My daughter's saying is, "It is what it is... we'll just deal with it." Thank goodness they both developed an immunity to my spazzing rather than inherit my spazzing... :cds:
Wait until they're old. Like you.

How many jobs would be created or saved by stringing his fat azz from the TJ bridge?

Seriously. A friend's dog. 4 staples in her head. I still hear her screams in my head. Do you have a Valium handy? I didn't sleep a wink. I had nightmares. Baby Girl is great and acts like nothing happened but I'm a ####ing wreck.
OMG how terrifying for her and you. :huggy:

Thanks. This is the 2nd time she's been bitten by a dog in 6 months. This is the 2nd time that she's tried to hug a dog while they were sleeping. I hope this is the last. The 1st time was a beagle.
I hope your daughter is ok. My youngest got bite when he was in Pre-school by our dog who was startled by him when she was asleep. Had to get a few stitches and learned a valuable lesson not to mess with the dog while she is asleep.

As the wars die down, we should expect more job cuts from defense contractors.
Unfortunately, your right. This economy is based off war. A lesson Gen. Pershing warned the government about at the beginning of the 1900's. No war, no production...
We need to shift to a Space economy. Too bad the radical muslims will not let us alone and are committed to taking over the free World.
We will need another 9/11 type scenario to spool our "war" machine back up, but that said, looks like the middle east will have that covered here in a few months. It looks like Egypt will fall and probably attach Israel along with Iran. Then the End will begin...

Yes, like people will stop spending. Most people working in this sector of the economy are not stupid, they are aware of the law and what it means to the entire federal budget, including the defense departments budget.

It's likely to not only shut down major segments of contractors but require the furlough of significant civilian employees as well. While they can talk about "across the board cuts', the fact is the first priority will be to keep the troops supplied. The operational readiness of our forces, in particular those deployed in combat zones, will be a top priority.

"unwarranted negative reactions"?
Like voting for his opponent?
