Defrauding illegals may be protected speech

Someone on these forums is always writing that if people are going to be stupid, someone should profit from them. Well, it looks like this guy found a scam that may fall under free speech.

The Supreme Court will soon decide how far someone is allowed to go in encouraging illegal immigration.

The justices this month agreed to hear a case involving a man who bilked hundreds of illegal immigrants by promising them a pathway to legal status through adult adoption — something the government has never allowed.

The case comes to the justices as the border crisis spirals out of control and as the Biden administration searches for answers that don’t involve the tough policies of its predecessor.

Hansen lured at least 471 people, whom he charged up to $10,000 each for his bogus adult adoption scheme. An FBI analyst figured his outfit made more than $1.8 million.

He admitted to agents that nobody had earned citizenship through his scam and acknowledged that adult adoption is not a pathway to legal status.

The court said the smuggling law that snared Hansen was so broad that it would make normal First Amendment speech illegal. If the justices rule in favor of Hansen, though, he predicted that “every crooked ‘notario,’ immigration consultant and alien smuggler is going to claim they’re a First Amendment free speech advocate and it will become impossible to prosecute people who exploit illegals for profit.”

And all the relaxing of drug law plays right to the Soma aspect.
I'm sure I'm not the only 12 year old that did this, but I found old lawn mowers in the trash, got the motors running and would find ways to blow the engine up. Drain the oil, run at full throttle while pouring paint thinner etc..... HUSH, I was experimenting... (I wasn't shooting teachers, being a squeegee extortionist etc...)

So, by grand design , are we watching some people doing the same as a social experiment?
