Driver Stabbed To Death On Del. School Bus
No Children On Board At Time Of Incident

NEWARK, Del. Police are investigating the mysterious circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing of a school bus driver in New Castle County Wednesday morning.

Authorities said a 31-year-old woman was attacked on board a Christina School District bus along Route 273 in Newark at about 7 a.m.

State Police said another driver noticed bus 610 parked on the side of the roadway, but was unable to see the driver. Upon further investigation, the driver of the bus was found slumped over the steering wheel.

“A representative of the Christina School District responded out and found the 31-year-old female victim with stab wounds. That person called 911,” said Corporal Jeffrey Whitmarsh of the Delaware State Police.

The victim, a mother of three, was pronounced dead at the scene.

School district officials said no students were on board at the time of the attack as the driver was just beginning her route for the day.

Police are hoping to talk to the woman’s ex-boyfriend, but said he is not considered a suspect in the deadly incident.

“He’s simply a person that we’d like to speak to and determine how he’s able to aid our investigators with this particular homicide.

The identity of the female victim has not been released pending the notification of her family members. Police said her three young children are safe.

No arrests have been made.
