Exploding laptop puts Dell on hot seat July 11: Pictures posted on the Internet of a Dell laptop bursting into flames has caused the computer company major publicity problems. NBC's Don Teague reports.

First their financial department comes under fire, now it's their laptops!

Saw this on the MSNBC site, but the link won't work at the moment.

I love my Dell laptop, although its never exploded on me. If it did, I would probably be a little ticked off

I have a Dell PC. I guess now is the appropriate time to go :jameo:

Never mind that it's several years old and not puffed smoke once. Other problems, but no smoke or fire.

If an outbreak (i.e., dozens or hundreds) such fires occur then I think Dell should be concerned.

I saw a video of the burning laptop on MSNBC, can't get the link to work, but..... right next to the video was another - video touting HP laptops, on the same page! :killingme

Super Genius
There were pictures of a burnt NMCI Dell laptop going around a while ago. I think they said it was an aftermarket battery (because getting a battery from NMCI was too difficult).

:yeahthat:

When a defective battery goes thermal, watch out !!!!! :jameo:

Its the same with cell phone batteries. The manufactures are cramming to much power into the battery cells, and thus causing these meltdowns. Its not as uncommon as people think. Most only get hot enought to catch fire...
But there are ones that explode, causing injuries.
