Dell Laptop Problem

I recently purchased a Dell Inspirion 9300 laptop and I keep getting the following error message:

Hardware Malfunction
Call your hardware vendor for support
NMI: Parity check/Memory Parity error
The sytems has halted

If I just hard reboot the sytem it runs fine. The problem only seems to occur when I leave the computer on and it is not in use. It doesn't matter if the machine is connected to the internet or not. It does not happen all the time and does not appear to be effecting my use of the machine but I am concerned on what may happen down the road - like when the warranty expires.

I have contacted Dell 4 times already and we have updated all drivers, etc.; updated the BIOS and replaced the memory chips but the problem keeps appearing.

I have a 2yr in home service contract and am waiting to hear back from dell on them sending someone out to check the system over.

Any ideas on what could be causing this problem?

Is there enough ventilation where you have the computer? Fan coming on when the temp rises?

Have you checked the dell tech forum?

Might also want to try googling "NMI: Parity check/Memory Parity error" and see what you get. If you've already swapped the memory my bet would be a driver conflict.

The fan is fine and getting plenty of ventilation. However a Google of the error message brought up a Microsoft link with a memory diagnostic tool. I will run that see what happens.

Bottom line is that you paid alot of $$$ for that Dell and the extra support contract. Ship it back to them and make them fix/replace it. If it is less than 30 days old, see if you can permanently return it. You can always buy another one that does work.

:yeahthat: When I first got my Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop, I had a lot of problems with it and spent hours with tech support. I finally said enough is enough - either take it back and give me a good one or refund my money and I'll buy elsewhere. I had a brand new one in two days and have zero problems with it. :yay:

Well Dell got back to me today. They will be sending a tech to replace the motherboard in the laptop at my home. Could not ask for a better repsonse.
