This is the result of identity politics. No matter what happens to you, it's because of your skin color, gender or religion. I bet if she got cancer, she'd blame that on being both black & muslim.
I use to hear this sometimes in the navy. "I didn't get promoted because I'm black". No you didn't get promoted because you didn't do well on your rating exam. The exam doesn't know what color you are. It only knows the answers and you didn't select the right ones. Better luck next time.
