The sixth annual Southern Maryland Dementia Care Conference will be held on Wednesday, November 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Greater Waldorf Jaycees Community Center (3090 Crain Highway, Waldorf). The conference is designed to help family members, friends, and professionals caring for persons with Alzheimer’s and other dementias better cope with the challenges of care-giving. Registration is now open and seating is limited.

The keynote speaker is Dr. Robert J. Wicks, a professor at Loyola University and author of more than 40 books for both professionals and the general public, including: “Bounce: Living the Resilient Life;” “Overcoming Secondary Stress in Medical and Nursing Practice,” and “The Resilient Clinician.” His presentation is entitled, “Riding the Dragon: Strengthening the Inner Life of the Caregiver in Challenging Times.”

Also presenting at the conference will be Shelly Edwards, Alzheimer’s Association Community Services Manager and Master Trainer. Ms. Edwards will share Financial and Legal Planning for Alzheimer’s Disease. Dr. Andrew Heck will present “Through the Eyes and Mind of the Alzheimer’s Patient,” giving caregivers a glimpse of the world of dementia for those affected with the disease. The day will wrap up with a stress relief session lead by Mercedes Santos from Circle Yoga.

The cost is $30 per person and includes all conference materials, and continental breakfast and lunch sponsored by the Greater Waldorf Jaycees.
