Democrats propose higher estate taxes to pay for their plan to close the racial wealth gap

House and Senate Democrats this week proposed a bill that would instruct the federal government to give anyone born in the U.S. after 2005 a $1,000 "seed savings account," and then make contributions to that account until they are 18 – a plan sponsors say is aimed at closing America’s "racial wealth gap."

If enacted into law, the bill would transfer billions of dollars in wealth from high-income families to low-income families, as it would fund the program by significantly increasing estate tax revenues.

The "baby bonds" bill, from Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., and Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., would give children up to $2,000 a year in the lowest income families, an amount that would drop as families earn more. Once a family makes more than 500% of the federal poverty level, their kids would only receive the initial $1,000 payment.

We already throw the most education money at the Baltimore schools providing funds for 'equity' of education. That doesn't seem to be the answer. :/ Each and every year we allow the politicians to convince us that money is the answer is another year where the people of those cities are stomped down rather than lifted up. Go low do the numbers go before they understand?

Public Schools in Baltimore City Public Schools School District have an average math proficiency score of 8% (versus the Maryland public school average of 19%), and reading proficiency score of 16% (versus the 36% statewide average).

In 23 Baltimore City Schools, zero students tested proficient in math in 2022, according to a report by Project Baltimore.

Through an analysis of 150 Baltimore City Schools, 23 of them, including 10 high schools, eight elementary schools, three high schools and two middle schools, no students met math grade-level expectations, according to a report by Project Baltimore. Approximately 2,000 students took the state administered math exams that tested proficiency levels.

An additional 20 schools in the district had no more than two students proficient in math, Project Baltimore reported. Another three schools in the district, which are for incarcerated students and students with disabilities, had no students that met grade-level expectations.

Why not state 13 high schools?
They might be noting that some are regular high schools and the other from a group such as charter schools or those academies that are the current rage in all the low performing urban school districts.

Here's a list of the number of schools that would fall into the high school category:

Rush urged taxation on the poor. Again...he was right. (I know it was satirical). Hawaii had the highest per-person financial support of the poor...last I checked,...they were given $$ and benefits in excess of 45,000 EACH per year: Tax them at 18% like everyone else.
