We tried to go to Dennis Point last night for dinner - closed up tight. Are they open on weekends only, or closed for good?

Ended up at Island Grill/Evans - it was OK, hubby walked away hungry. He hates going out to eat in general, and REALLY hates it when he doesn't get enough to eat. Makes it a long time before we get to go out to eat again.

(But glad it was open - his next stop was A&W)

The new owner is tightening up the majority of the business there prettyy quickly...but had a lot of ground to make up. The retaurant was supposed to remain open throughout out this season but I understand the working arrangement for that was tenuous..at best...and I'm not sure what hours they are open. I understand the restaurant will be the focus of some real improvement for next season though...and I'm liking what I've heard so far.

For future reference, Tall Timbers Marina (Reluctant Navigator) and Chief's, both in Tall Timbers, are the "places to go" in that area for a good meal. And Gridiron Grill, in the back of the Callaway Center is far beyond better than the A & W out front. :buddies:

That's too bad. I tried them out when they opened as Torpedo, and it was very good for a while. My only complaint back then was sitting outside to watch the water and just have a nice quiet dinner, but the outdoor karaoke kinda ruined that. Fell off pretty quickly.

I tried both of these places

I can certainly understand why they are struggling...they both sucked service and food wise.

Gilligan, what's that mean "tightening up"? Will it still have the campground? We were there a year ago camping and ate in the restaurant a few times and it was always good. Do you know who the new owners are?

It's more correct that the owner (who I do not know personally) has started changing/installing new management and staff and making some much needed changes and improvements to the facilities. The first year was a bit..."bumpy". The campground has already seen some nice improvements this year..the restaurant will soon.

I never maed it to Torpedo Grill under the most recent management so I can't speak to that from direct experience. Sad to say (because its so close)..its a rare event that I'll eat at Island Grill...been disappointed nearly every time I have.

I wasn't quite disappointed, but certainly not thrilled. It was just ok.

We were trying to go somewhere nice for our anniversary, and really prefer to support small, local spots in general. Didn't want to end up at the box places along 235.

Got home to a gorgeous pink sunset - bet it was pretty on the water.

Went there for brunch on fathers day last year and the singer was so loud we had to leave.

Island Grill, you mean? The acoustics in that bar area are really odd; it ends up being incredibly loud in there just with a fair number of patrons talking to each other. Live music blows you right out.
