Designer Mutts

hmmmmmm
Here is my rant about dog breeds and the bastardizing of them. I am happy with a pure breed just as I am a mutt. A dog to me is a companion, a fellow excerciser and a protector.

Sunday at the Egg Hunt in L-town I came across a BEAUTIFUL Brindle Mastiff, 260lbs of love, jowls and . People were asking the owner to pet him he was more than happy oblige and to answer any questions about the breed.

In the group there was a couple with thier dogs, in front baby packs. At first they were joking, asking if Koojo (not the Mastiff's name mind you) was hungry. The Mastiff owner then asked the small dogs breed, the response was a Chug. A Chug. hmmmmm..... A cross between a Chuahua and Pug.

Ugh. No, your dog is a Mutt.

Its like a cutesy way of renaming a mistake and being able to charge $400.00 for it. "Oh, its a Chug, you never heard of it becuase they're so rare" This is why I will alwys rescue my dogs and cats.

............AAAAAAND END RANT

Pound puppy dogs are the greatest. I have 2 pure breed dogs. I have gotten my cats and my first dog at the Humane Society and they are pure breeds. We did spay all of our animals so there were no accidents. I think if people spayed and nuetered their animals mix breed "got to have the dog of the moment" will not be as sought after. Like the Chug, puggle, and the golden doodle. People need to become more aware of the Rescues who have an overload of dogs. If they want a great dog and they want the "its a pure breed status" look into a rescue.

:high5: i agree!!! i think the same thing! If you want a mutt, go to a shelter, if you want a well bred , go to a breeder!

Ummm.... You do realize that "pure" in "pure bred" is a misnomer, right? Dogs have been bred for hundreds of years for specific traits.

I'd like to know who gave ya'll the right to tell someone what they "want?"

I want chicken for dinner. You want roast beef. You want a rescue dog and I want a Labradoodle.

To each his own.

Am I not entitled to have something I want? Why?

As long as you're providing a loving home to a dog - intentionally bred or mutt - , what's the problem?

Tell those people to eff off, NP. :growl:

you know...it just P's me off!! :burning:

I have nothing but admiration for those who adopt their pets. Good for you!!

Just the same for those who research and seek out a breeder for the dog or cat they want.

But don't run someone down because they want what they want.

I think you missed her point. My understanding is that she is annoyed with people whose poodle mates with whatever jumped over the fence last, and they try to pass the puppies off as some designer breed instead of the accidental mutts they are. It's a ripoff, and that is what I understand her to be ranting about.

I understand this but there is a standard and that is why there is the AKC and the UKC. I also understand breeding to get specific traits and I am so for finding and purchasing a pure breed with great bloodlines that are NOT from a puppy mill. I am also for found and adopted animals, I love them all, some of my very best animal friends have been gotten this way.

I agree that everyone is entitled to thier own oppinions too and I knew I was risking getting slack for that but I just have to get it off my chest and I feel a bit better.

I also know that when BF gets his pure breed Bischon, I will be enjoying my lovey dovey mutt or pure breed that I have adopted or found.

As long as you're treating your pound or pure breed puppy/kitty with lots of love and doing whats right for them them yes, have your labradoodle, chug, frankenweiner whatever.

BLAH!

Love,

Me

I'm in pain, I've been in pain for almost a month now and I swear it drags me down, its kinda like having PMS but it just gets me when I least expect it, I just get worn down and I go off about dogs and people who think they have these breeds that are so cool but they're getting ripped off and so on and so forth.

I think I need a cig, I shouldn't but it would feel so good. Gross but AAAHHHHH. Ya know what I mean.

Oh boy.

You see....why are you feeling like these folks are getting ripped off? It's what they WANT. I wanted a Labradoodle. For a very good reason.
B E C A U S E he hardly sheds and he is VERY good with kids. I love Labs. I love Poodles. Now I have the best of both worlds.....and yes, I did try the local rescue and shelters. No luck. I waited long enough and did my research on the internet and learned about a Labradoodle breeder in Lancaster, PA.

I am now the proud owner of what I want. Worth every cent. I was not ripped off at all. I love him & he is everything I hoped for, and more.
