Okay..looking to get a new desktop(tower preferred). Looks like everything is a la carte, so I guess that means keyboard, mouse, box and monitor are all separately priced. Got $1500...gimme some suggestions. Want a quick machine, large HD/storage with a decent monitor (24"), probably speakers too. I'm too lazy to research myself :)

My daughter sent me a pic of what she just built. Shall I ask her some specs?

I’m about a year and a half to two years away from replacing mine as well. I would take a look at what Dell has on their configuration site. Look for something with a solid-state hard drive in combination with sata hard drive.

With the OS on the solid state it’ll be lightning fast.

Everything

Gaming is vastly different ... as well as the games you play

$ 1500 does not buy a lot of power these ........

My last home built was about $ 2200 for the box ...... I reused previous 3 24 inch displays

Core i7 - 8700K
GTX 1070
32 Gb RAM
256 Gb NVMe SSD - Boot Drive

3 Dell 24 Inch LCD Displays

I don't do any interactive gaming so I probably don't need super quick

OK so a basic desktop would probably suit you ... I always recommend ' business ' class machine they are more robust ... sure any pc can go 5 - 7 years

Dell - Optiplex
HP - Elite Desktops

I've only supported these professionally

don't pay the OEM for extra RAM, buy it from Crucial or Amazon and install it yourself RAM is the single biggest item to making your system faster

.... but I tend to go over board .. my last 3 desktops had 32 gb ... my next one will have 64 ...

At work our business laptops have 16 gb the Dell Precision's have 32 .. but then they run CAD Applications

I’ve always dealt with the OptiPlex at work, and bought XPS for personal.

Over the years I learned to avoid the Inspiron models. They only seem to have severe built-in limitations.

Yeah I just looked on the site at some of the XPSs. Price is really jumped over the last 10 years. OptiPlex might be a better bet.

Just sneakin' around....
Don't get bogged down on making a decision based on disk size. In a lot of cases, it's cheaper and better to upsize the drives yourself. Get a good piece of hardware with a standard HDD and replace it with an SSD or NVMe drive of your choice.
