The Homicide Unit identified and arrested the man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this month in the City of Hyattsville. He is 38-year-old Dereck Vaughn-Clark. His last known address is in the 1900 block of 19thPlace in Southeast, Washington DC. He’s charged with fatally shooting 38-year-old Dante Campbell of Hyattsville.
On August 1st, at approximately 3:40 am, officers with the City of Hyattsville Police Department responded to the 4600 block of Burlington Road for the report of a shooting. When they arrived, the officers discovered Campbell outside of a home suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he died a short time later.
The preliminary investigation reveals Vaughn-Clark and the victim were acquaintances. The fatal shooting stemmed from an argument between the two.
The suspect is charged with first and second degree murder and additional charges. He is in custody in the District of Columbia awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County.
