Investigators released surveillance video of the man who followed a victim out of a bank and robbed her minutes later. The man is in custody. He is 27-year-old Javon Clay of the 2000 block of Lakewood Street in Suitland. Based on information gathered during the investigation, detectives believe Clay likely targeted additional victims after they left banks who may not have reported the crime.
In the video from November 4th at a bank on Donnell Drive in Forestville, Clay walked into the bank shortly after 9:00 am and posed as a customer. Minutes later, the victim walked in. The suspect left the bank but came back a few minutes later and appeared to wait for the victim to conduct her bank transaction. After the victim finished inside of the bank, she walked out. Clay then also walked back out. He watched as the victim walked away from the parking lot. Clay followed her in a car and robbed her minutes later. Through investigative means, detectives identified and arrested Clay on November 27th.
Clay is also linked to the attempted robbery of an employee of a business on Ritchie Road in Capitol Heights on November 22nd. This case was featured on our Wanted Wednesday blog on November 27th. After trying unsuccessfully to steal cash, Clay fled the area.
Clay is charged with robbery, assault and theft. A court commissioner ordered him held on no bond.
