On August 11, detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division arrested Erion Vann Burton, 19, of Waldorf, in connection with a carjacking that occurred on May 18. In that case, the victim and suspect had been communicating through an online site and agreed to meet in Waldorf. When the victim arrived, the suspect entered his car, brandished a handgun and forced the victim to exit the car. The suspect then fled in the victim’s Mercedes. The victim was able to flag down a passerby and call police, providing a description of his car. Responding officers observed the Mercedes in the area and initiated a traffic stop, but the driver fled. The vehicle was later found crashed on October Place in Waldorf. Burton was developed as a suspect and an arrest warrant was obtained. On August 11, detectives received information that Burton was hiding at a relative’s house in Waldorf. Officers responded to the home and located Burton and another man who had an open warrant for violation of probation. During the arrest, officers observed a handgun in plain view. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence and subsequently recovered two guns and marijuana. Burton was charged with armed carjacking, first-degree assault and other related charges. Detective E. Weaver is investigating.
