Detectives charged a suspect in connection with
the robbery of two women in Adelphi in the past two months. The suspect is 24-year-old Rony Alvarez-Espinal of the 1800 block of Metzerott Road in Adelphi. He’s charged in connection with robberies that occurred in June and July. Detectives are actively working to determine whether he’s linked to a similar crime in Adelphi in May of this year.

Alvarez-Espinal is charged with a robbery that took place on July 6th, at approximately 9:50 am, in the 1800 block of Metzerott Road. The preliminary investigation reveals he approached the adult female victim as she walked on a footpath and knocked her to the ground. He took a cell phone and the victim’s purse.

On June 23rd, at approximately 3:55 am, the suspect robbed another adult female victim inside of an apartment building in the 1800 block of Metzerott Road. In this case, Alvarez-Espinal cut the victim’s arm with a knife. He then fled with the victim’s cell phone.

Through various investigative techniques, Alvarez-Espinal was identified as the suspect and was recently taken into custody. During the execution of a search warrant at his home, some of the victims’ property was recovered. In both cases, the suspect and victims did not know each other.
