Prince Georges County Police Homicide Unit detectives identified and arrested two suspects in connection with a murder on Saturday in Fort Washington. The victim is 30-year-old Desmond Thomas of Laurel. The suspects are 54-year-old Kenneth Elwood Smith of Fort Washington and 18-year-old Lamont Scott of Fort Washington.
On October 27, 2023, at approximately 4:00 pm, officers with Maryland-National Capital Park Police responded to a park in the 2300 block of Old Fort Road for a reported shooting. The victim was located outside suffering from gunshot wounds and a stab wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene. A second adult male also suffered a gunshot wound. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The preliminary investigation revealed the suspects fatally assaulted the victim during a dispute. The suspects and victims were not known to each other.
Smith is charged with second degree murder and related charges. Scott is charged with first degree murder and related charges. Both are in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
The Prince George’s County Police Department investigates all homicides that occur on Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission property.
