PGPD Detectives Charge Suspect in Domestic-Related Homicide in Lanham

The Homicide Unit identified and charged a suspect in connection with a homicide Friday night in Lanham. The suspect is 30-year-old Nigel Hernandez of Lanham. He’s charged with the murder of his father, 73-year-old Andres Hernandez of Lanham.

On December 3, 2021, at approximately 10:40 pm, officers responded to the 9500 block of Woodberry Street for a welfare check. When officers arrived, they located the victim outside of his home unresponsive suffering from trauma. He was pronounced dead on the scene. An autopsy revealed the cause of his death was multiple injuries to include blunt force trauma and stab wounds. The manner was ruled a homicide. The motive remains under investigation.

Following the homicide, Nigel Hernandez fled the area. With the assistance of the Virginia State Police, he was located and taken into custody during a traffic stop in Charlottesville on Saturday.

Nigel Hernandez is charged with first and second degree murder and related charges. He remains in custody in Albemarle County, VA, pending extradition to Prince George’s County.
