Deuce from SMAWL

Well I went to my first ever adoption days at Petco to help out and volunteer. We moved to MD from Florida about 2 months ago, and I have been eager to get back into the rescue and rehab programs up here. I have been having withdrawals. LOL

Anyway, if you recall around Christmas, we got a bulldog puppy during a visit to my inlaws. Tank was born 10/17/06. Cute as a button and evil as the day is long. (kidding)

Well I was minding my business filling in and learning the process for adoption days at Petco and meeting all the wonderful volunteers in the group. I know I am going to love helping out. And in walks Deuce with his foster family. Deuce is a pit bull born 10/7/06 and started out at All Kinds sick and dying at 3 weeks of age. He then got over the hump and went to a family who kept him one day and said it wasn't working out. Then back to foster care.

Well for me, it was love at first sight. I called my husband and told him to ride his motorcycle up to see me. He, by the way, rides a Harley Davidson Softtail Deuce (see the fate).

He got there and it was love at first sight for him as well. So..... Deuce came home with us. He's doing awesome and we have him already potty trained. Only a small accident once but that's it.

I'll post pics of him soon!

So how long have you had him? I'm sure the start from the foster family is what has helped him to be so easily housetrained.

Good luck to you, very few people I know have the time, patience, and/or knowledge to raise two dogs so close in age at the same time, especially large breeds.

Plus I'm surprised that they adopted to you. Most Rottweiler Rescues I know wouldn't have adopted another dog to you so soon, especially since they are the same age, along with having the 6 chis in the house.

Good luck with both Tank and Deuce - they sound cool.

I've had him since Saturday. The foster family gets big kudos from me. They did a great job with him.

Thanks for the luck. I am sure we will be fine. I worked for a vet in Florida for over 4 years and did over 15 years of rescue work and rehab work with 2 primary groups in Florida. We worked a great deal with dogs and another group that handled raptors and wildlife. I actually have had good experience with puppies close in age as fosters and they feed off each other (good and bad) and help each other train easier. However, these aren't fosters. I think the other thing that helps is that my husband was born and raised with bull breeds and I have had bull breeds before myself. Knowing this breed is half the battle.

The chis are fine with him. They have their own room in the house so it is easy to keep everyone separated for individual play time and we still have group time.

On a different note, I am about halfway through with Caeser's Way, by Caeser Milan. Has anyone else read this or have thoughts on his way of training?

I have watched the show and actually found his website. What a concept he provides. I think the more I read, the more I want to meet him in person.
