Deuteronomy 6:10 When the Lord your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you—a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build, 11 houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant—then when you eat and are satisfied, 12 be careful that you do not forget the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

Oh it is so incredibly wonderful to be home on my own computer with my internet back! I mean it was wonderful to take a few days and travel down to Tombstone to visit the ghosts of the Earps and the Doc.... but I do love being home.... talking about the Bible on my computer!

OK.... It's so easy to forget about God when things are going good.... When you have a nice home to live in and food is plentiful, it's easy to forget to thank the one that really provided it all for you. When the internet is quick, the toilet is just the right height and the food is home cooked not home style.... it's easy to forget that without God all this would be just ordinary... or non-existent.

Now here's the easy English commentary starting back after the shema verses.

God told the Jews to teach their families about his commandments. God told them to tie the commandments on their hands, heads, doors and gates. God may have meant that the Jews should never forget the commandments. They must affect every part of a Jewish person’s life. However, some Jews have done exactly what these verses said. They wrote the commandments and then they tied them onto their hands and onto their heads. They fixed them onto their doors and gates also. They thought that they were keeping God’s laws in that way. But that did not prove that they loved him. And they did not always behave in the right way.

Moses warned the Israelites. They must not forget what God had done for them. When they reached the country, everything would be ready for them. They would be so pleased with this that they might forget God. But God was jealous because he did not want the people to worship any false gods. It was right for God to be jealous. It was because he did not want them to *worship any false god. The Israelites should respect God and they should serve him only. That is the only right way. If they did not do that, God would be angry. He would ruin them completely. That happened later in Israel’s history. In the time of Amos, people were very rich and they forgot the Lord. They remembered his festivals, but they did not obey his laws. Sometimes they gave honour to false gods. Those false gods did not demand the high standards that God wanted.

My daughter went to Tombstone with us. She's grown now with teens of her own. She informed me that she just doesn't buy the whole Bible thing. After all Adam and Eve had belly buttons just like she does. I was quick to remind her that after the last cancer surgery, I no longer have a belly button..... then I went on to tell her that I'm not so sure Adam and Eve had a belly button.... they were, after all, created by God outside of the womb.... and I've never seen a photo from their album so I can't attest to the fact they had or didn't have belly buttons. Then she told me that she believes that people evolved from a one cell organism. Well, I don't argue with that.... even my most intricate afghans begins with a slip stitch so why couldn't God have created man through that one cell organism. And where does my daughter think that one cell organism come from? Space she says.... and where did space come from? I think my daughter has had it too good and she has forgotten how important God has been in her life.... See.... God wants us to remember Him.... even when He gives us great lives.
