Dialer Scam

My parents in PA have been hit by a dialer scam. Luckily, they've only been charged 35$.

Here's my question...since my parents primarily use their cell phone for long distance calls, if they should disconnect long distance from the regular line, would it stilll be possible for them to be scammed by a dialer again? TIA.

Dialer scam - when using a dialup connection for surfing you hit a page that runs a script that disconnects your standard connection and automatically dials to a long distance or 900 number leaving you with what could be a hefty bill to challenge if you don't catch what it is doing.

Thanks for the info...however, the parents have already cancelled the long distance, so while being a drastic solution, it will totally stop the problem. In the last couple of years, they've been using the cell for pretty much all long distance, so it's not a great hardship.
