Digging

I have a dog that loves to be outside in the backyard digging. She digs nonstop. I'm not sure what she is digging for but by the size of the holes and rutts she has made in the yard, it must be something HUGE! :lmao: Is there anyway to curb a dog's digging habit? She's having fun so most the time I dont' mind but the yard is getting quite holey and I'm tired of walking along, then twisting an ankle. :lmao: Does anyone have any good suggestions?

Find something else for her to do. A digging dog is a bored dog.

 Actually she seems quite occupied in tearing up the yard  She has plenty of toys, attention and activities. She's a good dog and my best friend. I just don't like tripping in the holes, its bad on the riding mower too. Oh yeah, and trying to clean the mud off her big paws when she comes in is a struggling match, but its that or mud all over the house. I was thinking maybe she has alot of bones or something buried out there or the previous house owner does, but generally she's a glutton and gobbles everything up. I definately can't see her "saving" something for later

I just looked outside. There she is digging away and quite intent. She's actually got all fours jumping in the newly created hole and I can see chunks of dirt flying all over the place. I can definately say she's not bored :yay:

Sure she's not bored now, because she's found something to do. Read this link. My dog digs his little heart out when he's left alone outside for more than a few minutes. With nobody to play with, he creates his own fun. I'd think that the only way to stop your dog would be to bring her inside, or play with her outside. She's already proven that, when left to her own devices, she will find something to do without you.

Take the dog to the dog park, take the dog for a walk. Once they've learned a behavior is OK and now all of a sudden it isn't OK, you have to give them something else to do.
(I've got a couple of diggers, I like to pretend they're starting my in ground pool)
