Disc Golf in southern Maryland

Hey I am looking to open a disc golf course in Lexington Park (Lancaster Park) to be exact. :yahoo: I have already spoke with the board of directors for park management and planned out a goal. What I need is a group of people willing to play. In other words the park wants to know that there money isn't going to go to waste. If you are interested in playing please send me an e-mail with your name so that I can add you to a list that I will provide the board of directors. You will not be obligated in anyway shape or form to provide anything for this cause. I just need proof that people will play if we construct this course. If you have never played disc golf, it is very similar to regular golf but instead of golf balls and clubs you use a frisbee disc and a basket. Now I know it dosn't sound like much fun but once you try it you will be hooked I promise. I recommend looking online at some of the websites that promote disc golf. If you google it you will find that it is a world wide sport and there is even a PDGA which is a Pro Disc Golf Association. Also a good website to check out PDGA Well with that said if you are interested in lending me a hand in creating this send me an e-mail @ william.t.franklin1@navy.mil or Billdogg222@yahoo.com If you are serious about helping and want to get involved you can call me @ (904)982-3639

Thanks for your time

I think a miniature golf course, batting cages and bumper boats would go over better in Lancaster Park. :yahoo:

The one at SMCM was top of the line. Some of my best memories of college were playing those holes.

When you say setup a course, are you implying adding the standing cages for the "holes" or just choosing things to hit as the holes? IMO, the cages are kinda over the top for most people, as they require the -actual- frisbees designed for frolf. (aka heavier, slimmer)

In your next discussion with the powers that be, could ask 'em to set up a field for midget tossing? TIA.

Do they still have the annual Frisbee Golf Tournament? I have fond memories of the tournaments and the parties in the North Field afterward. Heck, I was tossed into the St. Mary's River for my 18th B-Day during a golf tournament! :lmao: At least they didn't toss me into the pond!

Okay to cover all the posts in one reply. I appreciate the other games that you spoke about but the area that I want to set this up in I.E. the old base housing area(flat tops) is going to be designated as a passive park and the park officals want a quiet non destructicve sport. The plan is currently to set this course up in a professional manner such as real goals (Pins, baskets, Holes) and to have concrete tee's with rubber padding.
Sorry but I think Maryland has a law against tossing Midgets. Well I hope I coverd all of your posts if not let me know.

As a SMCM Alum I'd love to see this work out. I feel weird going back and playing there now. Be nice to have a place to play. :)

HOLY COW! I was just telling someone about while the kids and I were at Lancaster Park. I saw the game played up in Gaithersburg and thought it was cool. That area behind the playground would be nice.:yay:

They let you take coolers on the course at the park in Gathersburg:whistle:

Hell, why not take it one further than that? Turn it into a weekend tournament. Sell tickets, booze, and food. Maybe some live music. It really is a blast. :)

I think since the open area at Lancaster Park is next to the playground, alcoholic beverages would be frowned on:frown:

When I've played golf, we took beer. Maybe one of the local golf clubs would like the idea:wink:

You're right, they'd probably be a little ridiculous about it. As for a local golf course being amenable...I doubt it. They'd want to charge ridiculous fees just to look at their grass, let alone walk on it. :lmao:

You can't enjoy anything if the county is involved:ohwell:
And tell me about fees!! I played 9 holes with the BF and it cost us almost 300 dollars at this course in Michigan:faint:

I think that if the country charged a nominal fee to drink open container ar certain public facilities then you could enjoy a good weekend out. Of course, there's no such thing as a nominal fee to a gov't employee.:ohwell:

See the beauty of most disc golf courses are that there is no green fees and no rental fees its just a one time purchase and you can play for as long as you can stand (non obvious container in hand)
