DIY Dog Obedience/Training

But wait, there's more...
Can anyone recommend a good dog obedience/training DVD program or something along those lines that I can get? Sammie (1 year old) is really testing her position in this house with her shoe chewing, carpet scratching, jumping, nipping, etc. Because of my schedule, trying to work in a class might be hard, but I'm considering that option as well. My ex used a program that was on video some years ago with our lab and it worked well, but I can't think of what it's called.

Any suggestions?

Some programs that offer classes also offer in-home one-on-one sessions to help with specific problems.

I watched him on Oprah one day, and was amazed at how he pointed at a dog and made it behave. When I point at my dog he barks at me. He must think it's rude. :blushing:

Tonight was Sammie's first night in doggy obedience class, and I must say, she did rather well. I think the fact she was the only dog in class helped a lot! She had the undivided attention of both her trainers and her master for an hour and a half, and all three of us had treats for rewards, so she didn't pay the passersby and other dogs a bit of attention. They also give you a workbook w/homework and a chart to track her progress and successes/accomplishments, so that's good because there's no way I'd remember all the chit they go over in each class.

I must say, I was a little leary of what Petsmart might offer in terms of dog training (if it'd be just another 18 year old makin' $5/hour and pissed off at the world), but that totally was not the case. Both these trainers knew their stuff and were great. :yay:
