Do Not Call List - for your cell phones

I just received an email from someone stating there is going to be a do not call list for cell phone numbers. I was just wondering if anyone else has heard of this list, and is it real?

Cell phone numbers will start to be sold

A directory of cell phone numbers will soon be published for all consumers to have access to. This will open the doors for solicitors to call you on your cell phones, using up precious minutes that we pay lots of money for.

The Federal Trade Commission has set up a "do not call" list. It is called a cell phone registry. To be included on the "do not call" list, you must call from the number you wish to register. The number is 1-888-382-1222 OR you can go to their web site at (http://www.donotcall.gov) and add your number to the do not call list. You can register up to three numbers on the Web..Give this to friends who have cell phones.

They call me ... Sarcasmo
Verizon Wireless

will NOT be giving out the numbers of their wireless customers. I would still put my cell number on the do not call registry though.

I just received bad karma for this post.... Does this subject offend anyone? I'm not trying to offend anyone, I was just seeking more information.

Anyway, I guess I'll put my number on the list. My contract is with Verizon Wireless, but I'm still going to place it on the list as backup.

It should be unquestionably and undeniably illegal to telemarket to cell phones, and anyone who does will immediately get a piece of my mind the very second I realize what they're doing.

It's bad enough that they call my home phone using my own resources to peddle their shït to me, but to use my minutes - which I have to pay for individually - will be met with the harshest of insults and and extreme rudeness.

There is absolutely NO excuse for telemarketting to cell phones, and the very idea enrages me.

And if my phone company sells my number to a single god damned telemarketter, I will immediately stop paying them, and they can hug my bag if they think I'm paying a termination fee.

Couldn't agree with you more. If they call you then you should get their companies number and information and then bill them for your minutes. That's what I would do.

I know it is a pain, but, if you have an unpublished and unlisted number, you don't get calls. I think since I moved into my house, I may have gotten 2 actual telemarketer calls. The rest are wrong numbers. Apparently, I have the number of a store that is no longer in business. How fun! :twitch:

This is in theory, and you are right , you get less calls but you will still get some. Ever put your phone number on a check when you pay by check? Ever give your phone number to any store, or real estate agent, etc? We do it all the time because they all ask for your number (I give out my work number). That is how you get calls even though you have an unlisted / unpublished. Every phone number I have had for the last 15 years has been un-published, un-listed but if you have the same number for a few years eventually your number gets out there. I say sign up anyway if you don't want the calls.

Is computer dialing still allowed to be used by telemarketers? The computer could not care less if you are on a list and if it connects with the number of operators available, the rest get hung up. Very rude.
