DO NOT CALL list

We signed up on this practically the day it came out. According to the web site, it is good for up to five years.

Recently, we've been barraged with phone calls of people trying to sell us stuff - and they don't fall into the normal "loopholes" of being companies we already do business with (e.g. Verizon is our wireless, so they call to sell us something ELSE and they can do that, legally). And the local police department has ALWAYS ignored the list when it comes to soliciting for money.

In one case, when my wife told the offending caller that we were on the DO NOT CALL registry, their response was "so?". Others have been marginally contrite - they excuse themselves - but someone else from their company STILL CALLS AGAIN ANYWAY.

Has this happened to anyone? My guess is that telemarketers have learned that if they ignore the DO NOT CALL list, most people will not follow up to see that they get fined.

Yes, I was on the list and all was good then all of a sudden I was barraged. I re-entered my numbers on the DNCL and they stopped.

Of course non-profit's do not have to abide by that.

I put my cell on AND my onstar number. One day I was driving down the road and the radio shut off and I hear my truck ringing :lmao: Having never gotten a call via onstar I was baffled. When I figured out what it was I answered and it was a telemarketer for Direct TV.

ALL the time up until about 2 months ago. Every time one of them would call, I would let them know my number was on the DNC list and that they were in violation of the Federal government. I also let them know their name and company would be reported. I suppose they've all learned their lesson because very rarely do we get calls now.

If you have the name and/or number of the company calling you, you can report it. I did that when some recording kept calling us telling us we'd won a new car. The calls stopped after I reported it.

On "30 Days" last night a guy who had lost his job to outsourcing traveled to India to watch telemarketer trainees enter the business. They have to learn how to "speak American" and, to them, this is an honorable career.

They were surprised to learn that Americans hate those calls.

I'd make sure they gave me the damned car as compensation.

Even if it's a guy calling from his home basement and his car is a rusted '95 Toyota?

Discover card was not getting the message that I was on the list plus I had personally told them to stop. There is a number on the 'Do Not Call' website to report violations so that is what I did. I got a return email saying they weren't the ones to complain to. It looks like a PIA to report a violator.

I'm on the DNCL as well, if for some reason a telemarketer does get through I'll immediately interrupt and ask them to hold on a second, put the phone down and come back in about 10 minutes, 100% of the time the caller is gone. I'm all about wasting their time as well...

My father likes to get their numbers, and he waits 2 or 3 days. Then he calls them back! At really bad times! Most of the time when he calls them back, he tries to order pizza!

He tells the people that call for newspapers or magazines, that he cant read!

That's funny! We do the same thing. If it's for my husband I'll say, "Hold on for a minute. He's eating" and put the phone down. We'll be laughing while we're waiting for them to hang up. :lmao:

When my son lived at home, he'd answer the phone and tell them I was with my parole or probation officer at the moment. They'd usually not call back.

:lmao: Put the phone down and continue a very normal conversation. Let them know they are being ignored and they would have to be stupid to call again.
