WASHINGTON Dec 6, 2005 — Most Americans and a majority of people in Britain, France and South Korea say torturing terrorism suspects is justified at least in rare instances, according to AP-Ipsos polling.

This is good to know, but, policy is not made by polls. The President doesn't get morose over liberal eastern polls that paint him as unpopular and he'll not crow about this one (if he's smart about it).

I always thought the terrorists do not play by the rules, so why should we? If torture works, I say we do it. At least we do not go around beheading Iraq civilians.

I'm all for killing the combatants....and most of the Middle East for that matter, but information gathered from torturing these maggots is spotty at best.

I don't know. Put a guy in one of these <img src="http://webdeveloper.com/animations/holiday/christmas/gifs/nutcracker.gif" /> and see how much he talks including how many bullets and everything.

...if you have enough base knowledge, known facts, about a specific individual you can can what he does know at pretty much 100% reliability.

People have this picture of 'tourture' where you just inflict pain. Well, pretty soon, ANYONE is gonna tell you whatever they think they need to say to get you to stop. That ain't the only way.

Sleep deprivation, noises, drugs...

It's not about hurting people as much as it is reaching a point where you can tell if they are being honest or not.

Conversely, everyone remembers the US army colonel back in the ealy days of the war who got in trouble for putting his sidearm against a prisoners head and threatening to kill him.

Well, two things; they KNEW this guy knew and it was a choice between our guys lives and his. No contest. Sometimes, SOMETIMES, violence or the immediate threat of it, is the only way. Second, he got out of trouble, they let it go.

As they should.
