I recall my grandfather stopping at the Horney Bar for gas back in 60's driving to La Plata for horse feed. I was like 10 or 11 at time .

Horney's Bar was remodeled and became LaPlata Liquors at the intersection of Charles St. and Maple Ave.

:yay:

I used to live in LaPlata in the 80's for a couple of years, but spent nearly a decade in and out of town either going to the college or hanging out with friends. Refresh my memory as to where the Stumble Inn was located.

Bann, it was before your time in LaPlata.

"The Stumble Inn was a prominent La Plata establishment from
its founding in October 1929 until its closing in May 1961. Wallace
Barnes was the co-owner of the Stumble Inn and was interviewed
in the 1970’s by Vicki Minni, then a student at Charles County
Community College.

Lawyers from offices upstairs over the Stumble Inn or from
the courthouse across the street had lunch and discussed their cases,
perhaps, according to Barnes, settling some before going back to court"

Bann, not positive, but the article states across the street from the courthouse, i am not exactly sure today where the courthouse is in LaPlata have not been up that way in years.
I do know at one time the courthouse was down by port tobacco and relocated to laplata after a fire in like the 1890's.

The Stumble Inn was on Charles st. next door to Poesy's Hardware on one side and the Bank of Southern Maryland on the other. It was across the street from Martins Exxon station. I spent many happy hours at the Stumble Inn in my teen years. The front was a nice sandwich shop and soda fountain. In the back was the bar with the pool table, slot machines and pin ball machines. The Court House was on the same side just past the Bank of Southern Maryland.
