Know your breeder :yay:
Like most breeds, there are good dogs and bad ones and a lot depends on where they came from/how they were treated as youngins.

I don't think that'd be my first choice for a dog, but that's just me

I know someone who is looking for a home for a three year old dobbie boy.

I grew up with dobermans. Good breed, needs lots of physical activity and tons of training daily. Can have problems with their hips, testicular cancer if not neutered and can suffer a variety of other illnesses if they have come from a bad breeder. Also, if their ears haven't been docked, they'll need lots of care. Regardless of any hype, they are a very gentle dog, with their family. Can be overprotective though, which means again, they need lots of training.

Is there some reason why their ears would be any different from other breeds whose ears lay down?

Don't know the answer to that. I just know we had three dobbies growing up. My dad used them as police dogs. Two were docked, one not. The undocked one always had severe issues with his ears, and had to have extra care and attention paid to them for preventive maintenance. I don't own any floppy eared dogs, so I've never had to deal with it again.

ACTUALLY!!!!
Ears

I didn't know why, but knew there was a reason

A reason for what? Did you read that? It said there is no difference in cropping or uncropping. Both are allowed in the show ring. :yay:

Gotcha. I've never had a problem with flop-eared dogs. I'd guess they'd just need regular care like with any ears.

Wtf? Did YOU read it?
It said that they crop the ears because the dogs are guard/protection/police dogs and there is less chance of the perp grabbing onto the dogs ears, and it enhances their hearing ability...
