to the Hellcat... all 707 hp and 650 ft lbs of torque of supercharged goodness

http://www.modernmoparmagazine.com/...-is-the-most-powerful-muscle-car-ever-707-hp/

The Challenger’s new 6.2-liter Supercharged Hellcat engine is also the first factory supercharged HEMI, as well as Dodge and SRT’s first application of V-8 supercharger technology. For the first time in Chrysler Group history, the all-new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT with a Hellcat engine comes standard with two key fobs — red and black. The red key fob is the only key that can unlock the full 707 horsepower and torque potential of the Challenger SRT Hellcat engine; while the black key fob limits the driver to a reduced engine output of 500 horsepower

Best guess right now is the Charger will get the new motor late 15. Price estimates range from mid-fifties to mid 60s. SRT-8s will now come in three flavors. Superbee, decontented at a 200lb weight savings, 6.4 liter 475hp, regular, same engine, but adaptive suspension and such, and the Hellcat, with the "smaller" motor and different wheels/tires,larger brakes, different suspension and cooling systems, etc.

Recently viewed a 2014 Viper in a dealerships showroom for $145,000. Nice monthly payment of $7,500. Sweet looking Bat Mobile.

Might be fast, but it looks just like the other 50-60 Chargers I saw today. Fail.

Thats odd, because it's not a Charger:) And I'm a bit happy because unlike the last gen )12-14, the SRT looks different than the normal model. Like the first generation, it's easy to see the difference.

The SRT gets a scoop the others dont. The Hellcat get that and a fascia that's different too.

And Jeter, a lot of folks think the Viper went a bit too far pricewise, although 145 seems like it has a lot of dealer markup. Thats one of the reasons the guy who has headed SRT for the past couple of years has been booted, I think.

Sounds like door grapes from a former Viper owner :)

What throws me a little bit is the red and black key. Black for 500 HP, red for 700 HP. Buddy i work with has a 2012 Challenger, and that surprised him also.

To unlock the Hellcat's full 707 hp, a special red key fob is needed similar to the Mustang Boss 302's track key. A black key fob puts the car in valet mode, limiting power to 500 hp. Putting that power to the ground is a six-speed manual transmission or Chrysler's new TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic.

Note that unlike the Mustang thing, this isnt being touted as a "Track Key", which caused a ton of crap for CA owners, which I dont recall the resolution to, had something to do with CARB, I think, and wasnt there some issue with warranty using the Stangs Track Key? I can imagine my car with an extra 75HP, and still imagine teaching my son to drive in that, like I have with the Charger. An extra 200hp over that? I might use the black key for training, and for those rare times I might let someone else drive. My wife might be happier on the black key.

My 2nd yellow car was faster than a Viper and out performed a Viper in every category but I was bored with it after only 3 months. Sold it after only 11 months. Lesson learned? There's far more to it than just going fast.

Well of course there is. And power is for more than just going fast. The visceral feelings such power brings has it's own enjoyment. I enjoy my Charger just getting up to 40/50/60, or in a turn, even without pushing the envelope. I enjoy my motorcycle even more than my car, even though, while it's as fast as my car, I never drive it that fast, nor corner it as hard. Even the couple of short drives I've taken in the Samurai have shown me I"ll have a blast driving that when the son isn't, even with it's silly 65 hp and leaf springs on both ends. Some vehicles have soul, some don't. Drove an Accord for a week once, felt like I was trapped in a toaster oven.

I'm not knocking the Viper, believe me, I got to drive one on a racetrack, and it was amazing, car was just silly in every regard. What was that Archer quote? "This car is very hard to drive......with this raging erection!!!!!". I'm just really surprised that Dodge decided to go this crazy with the horsepower, who the hell does that, gives the 2+2 higher numbers than the dedicated two seater? But anyone who thinks the Charger and Challenger look alike simply is not looking.

Best guesses we have now is that the Barracuda is maybe a 16 or 17 model year thing, might even be 2018. Supposed to be significantly lighter than the Challenger, a car hobbled by sharing a platform with full size sedans. Base platform is supposed to be from the Fiat side, a midsize platform. This srticle is a bit dated, not the reference to the Hellcat being mid 600s, while they ridicule one source who says it's closer to 700 :)

Pricing has been released, 59,900 before destination charge, so a little over 60K. Options? Not sure, might be pretty loaded at that point, not much left to add. You want stripped down track car, you get the SuperBee "weaksauce" at 6.4 liters.
