I've had vonage for going on 2 years now. It is like $29.99 with tax and stuff. I think it is by far the cheapest long distance calling plan I've ever come across. I have had no issues with vonage personally, but every time your internet goes down your phone does also. If you have crappy metrocast then it would happen on a regular basis. ALthough most people have cell phone also. The only issue I hear people talk about is the 911 feature. When you dial 911 it does not go straight to 911 it goes to your local dispatching service and they send out the police/ambulance. Basically they don't automatically have your address when you call you have to physically give it to them. I think thats about how it works. In my opinion thats no difference then calling from your cell phone. But all in all I love it.

I've heard folks get it whose regular phone service was fine, but they were looking for a bargain with Vonage and were disappointed with it. But apparently there are places in St. Mary's where the underground phone lines are old and deteriorating and Verizon hasn't made any attempt to fix it. The people who have that problem have high praise for Vonage.

I've had my issues with Verizon as well and really I don't have a problem with them per say but keep seeing the ad's for Vonage and wondered if they were cheaper and better, I'd switch..

Have had Vonage for about 2 years and can't complain. We have the $14.99 plan since we don't really use our home phone. Instead, we use our cells. Just one thing to remember, though. If your internet is down, your phone line will be down, too. We've had 3-4 disabled periods over the course of the 2 years - the longest was about 2 days.

I've had Vonage for over 3 years now. I highly recommend it, as long as you have good internet service. I go with the cheaper plan...only about $17/month after taxes.

They have great overseas rates, as well.

I had Vonage... it was ok as long as the internet was up... Comcast and Vonage don't cooperate with each other very well... It shouldn't be a factor but it is... just like Vista should work but XP works better

I was having so much trouble keeping reliable home telephone service, that I switched to Verizon.... What a nighmare... Vonage charged me for 3 months even tho I didn't have a signed contract with them.... They had my credit card number and hit it after the service was terminated.....They admitted it....

I told them that if I paid them off [which I did because they already had my money and hit it twice more] I would tell anyone that asks about them... that they are ok for service... but their word is not worth the problem.... I use to sell people on getting the service... but now.... nope... I talk about Vonage every time I get the chance....

Verizon can't get a bill right [telephone or wireless] but they admit when they have made a mistake and correct it .... all you have to do is call them...

I hate Vonage... They think they are never wrong...

COMCAST has the bundle and they are extremely reliable now.... All I have to do [if the service goes down] is give them a shout on a cell phone... tell them my phone service is out... and we get right in the front of the line... ahead of internet or tv calls.... awesome service...

:yeahthat: The cheapest plan is great. Just under $20.00 includes all taxes and fees & 500 minutes for anywhere in US and a few other places. Only calls you make count, not calls received. If you go over 500 minutes (don't see how) it's only $3.5 cents per min.

You can track your account online, has free voicemail and caller ID.

My internet is quite reliable so I highly recommend them.

My mom had Vonage and hated it. Her phone (and internet) would go out very often (basically every day).

If your internet is unreliable, vonage can't work since it's an internet based service.

I'm in PF and have Comcast for internet and TV. Who do you use?

I've been thinking about switching because Verizon is just absolutely insane with charges. It is very tempting but I want to be absolutely sure before I give up my trusty old landline...

We have Comcast "triple play" which includes phone. It has been extremely reliable. It even has a battery backup so the phone doesn't go down if power goes out.

If your internet connection is reliable, the phone service should be just as reliable.

Thanks for the info! I've been thinking about Comcast as well (would consolidate it down to one bill). I'll do some comparisons again...

I had Vonage for years, but switched to voipyourlife and couldn't be happier. Sure it was cheaper but that wasn't why. They have blacklisting which allows me to block any number. Once a telemarketer calls, they don't get another chance. They hear a message that I don't like them and they should die, or something maybe a bit nicer.
