Yeap, theose are the only 7 black people who contributed anything to American history... Your right!! All we did was talk about blacks in my history class...
You know, I just heard something on television on ABC that fits this post perfectly:

"Time and temperature brought to you by Melwood".

Oh, you mean like Booker T. Washington, Crispus Attucks, B.K. Bruce, Harriet Tubman, Madame C.J. Walker, Charles Drew and George Washington Carver? The black people I learned about in history class in jr. high and high school before freakin' Black History Month was even invented??
This is what I do not understand - it is the push of xxxx month that kills me.

My son really shut down on history in Elementary School - now in Middle School he is thriving on all of his classes and loves history. I think Black History Month was not :shoved: in his face as hard as it was in Elementary School - it just seemed that way watching the papers come home. He did a paper on George Washington Carver that made me proud because his teacher makes history interesting to learn without "this is February and we must study this..."

Just in case u didn't know, it is 365White. The only black people in History books are MLK and Rosa Parks... there are a lot of other blacks who helped shape America.... Oh and as fare as White Entertainment TV.... take a look at all the programming on Television. Most programs have mostly white cast..
I loved the Jeffersons. When George would yell "Weeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasie!"

That's because there are more white people in the US than blacks.

There were 5 main characters on The Facts of Life. 20% of those characters were black, at a time when about 10% of the US population was black. So blacks were overrepresented on The Facts of Life.

Same with the Mod Squad. Three main characters, 33% of them black.

The Cosby Show was 100% black.

Martin.

The Jefferson's.

Good Times.

Black people have always been on TV and there have been numerous predominantly or exclusively black shows on network TV. Webster and Arnold were black. The Fresh Prince was black.

Get over it.

Here is an interesting statistic: There are fewer blacks than any other minority in the US - yet, they seem to get the most attention.

Figure that one out...:eyebrow:
Not true:

White
243,825,488

Black or African American
40,240,898

American Indian and Alaska Native
4,497,895

Asian
14,907,198

Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander
1,007,644

Hispanic or Latino (of any race)
44,321,038

My daughter, who is ten, said that her classmate (who is black) said that Black History Month made her uncomfortable and didn't understand why her race was singled out during February. She said that its all the same history and it shouldn't matter what color skin someone has.

Ten year olds can see it...why can't everyone else?:tap:

That is shockingly offensive, like black people can't do any better than work at the freakin' McDonald's.

"Like the unique African Baobob tree..."

That just takes my breath away. And then showing good-looking black men and women - families, college grad - and somehow insinuating that these people work at McDonald's. That is a poor positioning campaign.

I would say it's probably those nasty cigarettes taking your breath away, not McDonalds.

Not really, I don't care if people smoke as long as they aren't blowing the crap in my face. I just took advantage of a statement that board mommy made and saw an opportunity to make a funny. I have friends who smoke. One of them is strapped to an oxygen tank now. Hey, it's a personnal choice. I just chose not to fill my lungs with a bunch of nasty black tar.

Just curious. If they invented a pill that you would take one time and it would allow you to quit smoking, would you quit? I used to smoke. I quit 18 years ago so I know how hard it is to quit but if someone could get rid of the addition factor, why else would someone continue to smoke? One of the ladies I work with smokes. She's a great person but she spends alot of time outside getting "fresh air." She sprays purfume on herself during the day and chews gum to hide the smell but all I can smell is purfume, gum and smoke when I'm close to her. She really wants to quit but is having a hard time.
