Does it work in your personal life? I'm not interested in the global view, rather a personal view.
When I was in the military I had a side business for a couple of years. Now I did this overseas and provided a service that was valuable to Americans. I did this without the benefit of any burdensome regulations, I just did it out of my house. I made decent money for the effort & hours I put in.
I have a few passive investments. Up until 2008 things were rolling along quite nicely. I didn't panic and didn't sell off. I'm just biding my time until the market adjusts.
I've been a producer & a consumer. I don't produce or consume much at this point in my life. I would have to say for me that the capitalistic model has worked for me. I went to work. Did what was required. Got paid. Spent what I earned & invested some.
