Does swimming make you pee

I hear that your skin doesn't absorb water because of lots of dead skin on top...or something.

Either way, wouldn't be enough to cause one any extra urine production :coffee:

Pookieboo!!!
I would suggest that your urge to urinate has to do with the physical sensation of being in water. Part of it is psychological, another part physical. If you've ever been sitting on the john for a while, reading a magazine or whathaveyou, you may find yourself urinating at will - because not only do you consciously know you're in the proper place and position for it, but your body (think muscle memory here) knows it as well, and the mechanisms for continence are relaxed, allowing waste to simply pass. When you're in the pool, the sensation of being surrounded by a liquid seems to have the same relaxing effect. It's a natural tendency to want to pee in a body of water. We have to remind ourselves not to. On the other hand, we've been trained (again, muscle memory) to not pee when we're fully dressed, when we're sitting on the couch, when we're sleeping in bed, when we're at work, when we're running or jogging, pretty much anything but sitting on the toilet.

Try this. Next time you're on the treadmill or the elliptical, think about peeing. If you can, close your eyes (on the elliptical, not on the treadmill), and imagine that you are floating in water. Imagine this, and think about peeing. Best to do this if you've had a high fluid intake beforehand. See if your bladder suddenly begins to squirm.

Also try this. When you're in your aqua aerobics class, try not to think about the movement through the water so much, but rather think of what you're doing as resistance exercise. Instead of using weights on dry land, you're using the wet substance around you as resistance against your body. (And it also doubles as air conditioning. Only not air. *wink*) If you concentrate on the exercise and what it's doing for your body (and whether or not you're doing it correctly), maybe you or your body won't notice the relaxing aspect and you won't feel the urge to pee.

WDF. So worth the wait.
Swimming makes my kids pee. As soon as they are all wet, there is an overwhelming urge to run back into the house dripping water all the way to the bathroom.
