A few years ago, I heard that the owner of Checkers was sorta kinda financing the Rag. As the story went, the owner ran a full-page ad for Checkers each week, and in return, the Rag would back the owner politically or at least not attack him in print. I don't know if that was true, but if it is, this may signal an end to the bargain.
