I am looking for a dermatologist for Bode.
POOR BABY!! I hope that you find a good Dermatologist. I wonder if it is Psoriasis, or some kind of Fungal thing. It is amazing that he is not itching his little head off!! My Boston might be needing a Dermatologist soon, so keep us posted. Can your Vet suggest someone? Maybe Allergy Testing might be in order. Give him a kiss for me!! :smoochy:

We saw Dr. Rebekah Westemeyer at Regional Veterinary Referral Center, Springfield Emergency Vet Hospital, 6651-F Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 703-451-8900. She was WONDERFUL with Bode. She is in the same office as Dr. Bruce Hansen.

It is not a staph infection or something viral. The doc thinks it's something auto immune brought on by a bug/spider bite. She took biopsies and we should have an answer on Thursday. If it is not brought on by a bug bite we'll have to start allergy testing.....

In My Opinion
Switch to a good hypoallergenic food and sneak in a half a benedryl each day.

Poor Bode! Tyson had similar bumps on his chest (as in pic #3). I switched his plastic dog bowl for stainless steel ones as well as limit his time with his collar on. He hasn't had them sense I've done this. Don't know if thats even a tiny possiblity. (if they're both allergic to plastic?).

Wirelessly posted

We switched to Natural Balance LID and are limiting his treats. He has only used metal bowls (learned that from the last one) and he only wears his collar when we go out.

Right now he is taking prednisone, cefelaxin, pepcid and benadryl twice a day.

It's looking more like a bad reaction to a bug bite. This has been going on since the 12th. We'll know more when the biopsy results come back.

Thanks for all the info and love! We really appreciate it!

Thank you for the information on the Derm Vet. Glad to hear that he is being taken care of by good people. That was some reaction wasn't it? Fingers crossed on the Biopsy Report, I'm sure it will be fine. Keep us posted!!

Good news it is bug bite related!! Bad news it has messed with his immune system. Hopefully we have got it straight with the meds. We are cutting back on the prednisone 10mg twice a day thru Sunday and the 10mg until Wednesday next week and we call the doc back to discuss. Keep your fingers crossed that the rash doesn't rear it's ugly head when the prednisone is discontinued.....

Thanks again for all the wonderful comments and checking on us. It really means a lot.

What wonderful news for Bode, and for YOU!! Hoping the Immune mess-up is temporary. Meat Ball didn't get her rash back after finishing Prednisone, but her's was an allergic reaction to Immunizations. For future reference, you might want to check with Bode's Dermatologist, to find out the correct doseage for his weight, for Benedryl, so that you can use it in a snap...especially if you can't get to the Vet right away, to prevent future Flare-Ups. Fingers CROSSED, this doesn't happen again.!!

1mg/lb

thats the dosage.... but Benedryl is ok and works ok... but the Pred or as shot of steroids is what really works.

Pred is ok for short term use...

Like you said, Prednisone is good for short-time use. It scares me to give it when ever they have a flare-up. I don't know about Animals, but in Humans..long-term use can cause Osteopirosis, and Diabetes. My Pup weighs 19 pounds, and the Vet said to give her 1/2 of an Adult Strength Benedryl twice a day for future flare-ups.

I like the fact that as soon as we know what it was the dermatologist began backing off on the prednisone. He was doing 40mg a day and he's down to 20mg and tomorrow he started 10mg a day. I am still giving him the cefelaxin, pepcid and benadryl. I was giving him 50mg twice a day. Now I'm giving him 25mg twice a day.

So far, so good..... Hopefully the peeing every 2 hours throughout the night will slow down. Momma is tired :)

peeing every 2hrs will stop a few days after he is off the prednisone. Atleast that is how it was for my dog. They drink a lot while on it so it makes them have to pee a lot.

I know where you are coming from with being tired. but think of it this way as soon as the water drinking slows down you will soon be able to get a good nights sleep again.
