We do not have pets but the dog across the street comes to our house every day and will lick our driveway for hours. It goes home several times and pukes in his yard while he is doing it. Hubby said maybe someone spilled a soda but the dog licks the entire drive way starts at one end works his way up then back down and goes and pukes. The dog owner is irritated at us over it and has told several other neighbors about it. I think my best bet is to continue to ignore the dog and its owner but any suggestions on why he is doing it encase there is something I can do to stop it.

Let me get this straight...

The dog owner is irritated at you for having their dog come over to your property and lick your driveway? Shouldn't that be the other way around?

If the dog owner has a problem, then maybe they should control their dog.

And yes it sounds like there is anti freeze residue that is attracting the dog. You might want to wash down your drive just to make sure (of course the "save the bay" crowd won't approve...).

They are mad at you because their dog goes and licks your driveway? Good one. I'll bet you have the cleanest driveway around.

I wonder how long it would stay there, he has been doing it about a month and the only two vehicles I have in the driveway are newer. Maybe a visitor leaked it but I know we had at least one good downpour of rain since then. I had suggested that maybe he try to keep the dog out of the driveway and he looked at me like I was stupid and said it was a dog. He then told me the dog would not eat or drink from a bowl. I was at a loss for words at that point so I just smiled and said, well I gotta get going.

I'd call animal control, dog shouldn't be running free.

You should suggest that he put antifreeze on his own driveway in order to keep HIS dog in HIS yard.

Yes, I am always the bad guy no mater what and it seems like it is that way with most people. I have come to accept my role as "bad guy" but I swear one day I am gonna just snap.

It comes down to if the dog dies, he's going to blame it on you.

it is not antifreeze... if it was.. the dog would be dead

is there driveway paved?

some dogs have OCD ..... really!!!

so if he came over and licked the driveway where something was on it... and as he does this the brain releases endorphins.... (like ours do when something pleasures us)

so now he remembers that "good" feeling and how it made him happy to do that/the feeling.....

does he lick the same spot every time?? if so .. try spraying something bitter of the ground... mix water and lemon peels.... or try to use a bitter spray...

We do not have such good luck with animal control. We have not had to call them a lot but the few times they have been out they seemed inconvenienced by us. The first time they came was to retrieve the neighbors dogs from inside my fence. It took him over an hour to catch them, was nipped by the great Dane and fought with the great Dane for 20 minutes trying to get it in the truck. I normally would not of complained and just waited for the owners to come home and get them but I needed to get my kids to school. I think that left a bad taste in their mouth and Animal control has not liked me since.

Want me to come over and punch your neighbor in the throat?

OCD is very possible, I never thought of that. he licks in straight lines and works his way up, then u-turns and works his way back down.

My neighbors dog has OCD and does this too, only she doesn't lick in straight lines and we know what she's licking. It's dried worms. We now refer to them as worm jerky. She seriously goes crazy in my driveway looking for every single dried worm she can find and then eats it. After she eats it, she then rolls over that spot with her back. But she never gets sick.

I don't know what your neighbors issue is. Can you spray it with a hose every time it comes over to YOUR house and starts licking YOUR driveway?
