Dog Needs a Good Home

I have a 5 month old german shepard/ elk hound mix puppy that needs a good home. I have been caring for her ever since my neighbor found her abandoned in the apartment complex. So, I have had her for about a week while the people at the leasing office tried to find her a good home. I don't know what to do. I am about to drop her off at the well pet clinic. Someone told me they take in dogs and try and find them good homes. I just can't take care of her. I have a 14 month old that I care for all day and the puppy is just too big for this apartment. Someone please help!

I don't know if he still does it, but Mike down at Mike's Bikes used to help find dogs new homes.

I am not from the area....or not a local....I am not just dropping her off...I have called. I am definitely not one of those kind of people. Dunno where mikes bikes is. I need to find something or someone today. I can't take care of her anymore.

Let us know if you have any luck w/ the orgs that Cattitude sent...You can also check w/ Animal Relief Fund (ARF) and St Mary's Animal Welfare League (SMAWL). Alot of places are full and there aren't enough people willing to foster...Let me know if you place her...Thanks.

The organizations I posted will probably not respond today..they usually take a few days. Magsr is a great organization but they are very busy. They will respond but a day or two later.

I don't know if Mike's Bikes takes dogs or not, but here's the number.

Well Pet Clinic (Animal Relief Fund) 301-866-0303. They are in the office today. If you get the answering machine, leave a message -- they will call back. Talk to Irma or Kathy.

Have called tri- county animal shelter..the lady that I talked to..well I was kinda if-y about. I called and left a message this morning to the well pet clinic..hopefully they will take her in. A great dog she really is. I just wish I had the space....for her thats all.

Tri-County..are they still a kill shelter?

Did you contact any of the places I recommended? They are all no-kill rescues.

My understanding about Tri Cty, they are a kill shelter when they need the room. An owner surrender can be put down w/in 24 hrs. A stray is kept for 5-7 days? maybe...If they don't have enough room and have more dogs coming in, there's only one way to make space available. I'm not 100% on those timeframes, but believe its close...

Haha, very funny mainman...I am laughing my arse off right now..anyways took her into the well pet clinic this afternoon, made me fill out some paperwork and now she is with them. I gave them everything of hers..including food and toys and treats...hopefully they will find her a good home!
