I got this e-mail from a friend-
I have phone number and e-mail if anyone can help.
Hi all-
We found out that my son Jackson had a dog allergy a couple months ago but was told that it was fairly minor. As it turns out the allergist underestimated the severity...
We spent the weekend in the hospital when our dog Rio licked Jackson on the side of his face and a short time later he went into anaphylactic shock. Luckily, after an epi-pen shot and some time in the ER he has recovered fully but the doctors told us that we can no longer keep Rio (even as an outside dog), since the allergy was likely to get worse with time as opposed to better.
It is with a very sad heart that I have to ask if anyone could take her for us.
A little info about my dog, Rio… We adopted her in January, 2001 when she was 8 months old (so she is ~ 8 years old now) from a rescue shelter in Washington, DC.
Australian Kelpie/Cattle dog mix (pics attached)
Spayed
Weighs 35 pounds
Up to date on all shots and exams
Very low maintenance, eats dry dog food (not picky) once per day
Good with kids and all people
Can be an inside or inside/outside dog
Loves to run and take walks
Fully trained (housetrained, sit, down, rollover, shake, etc.)
She is extremely fun and energetic
It takes her a while to warm up to other dogs (tends to be territorial for the first day or so) and she tries to play with cats (and most of them don’t like that J )
The vet says she is in great health, so she probably has quite a few years left in her. We love her to death and are very sad to have to place her with another family, but it has to be done. If you might be interested (or know someone who is), please contact me right away. The doctors want to see our home dog free as soon as possible and I would do anything not to have to take her to a shelter.
