Parks and rec already does obedience classes at Southern Community Center. Do you think there is enough demand to set up another program?
There are may good trainers in the area and I think they have full classes. Lusbyscrapper is holding a weekly class at my place and had no problems filling the class. And someone asked yesterday when her next class will start.
IMHO, there is a demand. And IMHO, there are also many dogs AND their owners that need training
does this person have any training, or are they just pretending to be a trainer?
She is a trainer with several years experience.
Should we sign you and your dog up for the next classes?
no, i have about 20 years of experience training dogs myself. it doesn't make me a trainer though.
I'll see your 20 and raise ya 10.
are you a certified trainer?
Which certification are you looking for? I googled "certified dog trainer" and came up with about 10 different certification groups on the first page. I would rather have a dog trainer who knows what they are doing then one who did a mail order course or paid an exorbitant fee to someone for a sheet of paper. As for the 20 years of experience, is that as someone helping people with their dogs or training your own? I have known several people who did dog training, and they all have told me that the dogs are not the problem, they pick it up right away, the training part comes in when training the owners to deal with the dog. I think I heard it somewhere "there are no dumb dogs"

its interesting that lusby scrapper didn't resond with her certs or experience.....
but to answer the question, i would like to see a certification that included book and practical experience.
Anybody can call themself a trainer. but there is more to it than just teaching a dog to sit. Its funny that you ask me about my 20 years of experience, but not the person claiming to be a trainer.....
I think it is a wonderful idea that someone wants to offer the community a chance to have a better relationship with their dog. If the "instructor" knows more than the student , then doesn't she have something to offer...if she can help someone else learn more about their dog and how to communicate with them is this not a good thing? why does everyone have to be so negative on this forum....she is just offering a service to her community. if you do not feel she is qualified, I believe you have never even met her, then do not attend her classes.
