Is it just me that thinks dog parks are crazy. The thought of dumb people throwing there dog in with others dogs. When the dumb owners have never had there dog around other or care what happens or know what to do if somehting does happen.

strage things happens, even when dogs have been around ecah other all there lives. I think this is just asking for it.

All it takes is one dumbazz to screw it all up and someones puppy or little dog will pay the price.

For the record, I am not saying if you go to the dog park you are a dumbazz, I like the ideal of dogs being able to run, I just think dumbazz should stay in thier cage and not own pets

It all depends on how you raise your dogs. I worry about owners not paying attention to their dogs while they are there. I will watch mine and if I don't like how others play or owners act, they won't go back.

Well, Cesar Milan says you shouldn't use the dog park as a way to exercise yoru dog....you should walk it first to burn off the excess energy. The dog park should be a way to socialize. It's much better if your dog is slightly tired, because then he/she is less likely to go looking for a fight.

I know my dog and her disposition and how she will love to play. Not to mention I will watch her to ensure her and the other dogs safety....And, for the record THIS dumbazz can spell and punctuate and form sentences correctly.

I know two people who have been bit at dog parks by trying to break up dog fights. I also seems like a good place to swap doggie germs.

Well you missed the meaning of what I wrote so what does it matter if it is spelled right or not. I did not call you a dumbazz, I called others that do not know how a dog acts. Unless you can out run every dog out there then your dog is at a high risk from some dumbazz.

I have seen dogs flip and kill other animals in seconds. You can't even blink and they are dead. Seen a dog go in a barn and before we could run the 50 yards to the barn 8 cats were dead

I have taken my furry children to many many dog parks over the last six years. What I have found (in all areas of No.VA and the two that I've been to in MD) is that people tend to treat animals better and allow them better socialization skills, than say, kids at a public playground.

Consider this, to go to the dog park, your animal must be current on its vaccinations (so the owner is keeping up on health)..... You have to put your pet(s) in a vehicle to drive somewhere (for IT to be happy) and you have to pick up (poo) after it once you're there.

Occasional fights break out - there will always be dominance issues. Most will tolerate some mounting and dominance types of activity - as long as it can be controlled easily and no fur gets wet from mouthing/"play" biting.

It's a wonderful place for dogs to go to RUN RUN RUN with others (and it's always funny to see how breeds will group together). Some folks, who
also need to build confidence and social skills in say, perhaps, rescues, have the opportunity to do so gradually.

A lot of folks, especially as time goes on, have no land. Folks don't like chaining their pets outside, so they'll have fresh air... Don't have the $$$$ for built in fencing and wouldn't be able to trust the neighbor's dog if they could.

In VA, Animal Control made regular trips checking vaccs tags and making sure the animals were registered within the county....

I love dog parks. :yahoo:

So who is going to check this?
our animal controll drives past the out of state puppy mill stands across from Bert"s twice a day, never stopped and they all know of the out of state sales at the farmer market along with them being sick. Call the local vets and see how many sick and DEAD pets they have dealt with in the last 6 months from The farmers market and by berts.

The people across from Berts have been sent packing. No fines or tickets just told to leave.

The concept of a dog park is great

I don't know how this dog park is going to work, but I took my dog to one when I was going to college. That park made people pay a fee to join, and they checked all vaccine records before they'd let you join. Once you join, you get the combination number for the padlock on the gate. Seems like a good idea to me. This one might be free though...I don't know the specifics.

In MY experience - the folks that want it badly enough, tend to keep to its upkeep. For example, if I saw a puppy coming in, I would say, "Hey, cute pup! How old is he?" And if the reply was anywhere near the rabies innoculation time frame, I would say, "Has he been fully vaccinated, as you know he'll be exposed to many pets and many pets exposed to him? And more importantly, does he have a rabies tag yet?" If the answer is "no", then I would politely say, that for the safety of others, the park doesn't permit dogs that haven't been vaccinated and have their rabies tag."

Other scenarios: "Is that your Bowser over there?" Answer: "Yes (smiling)" "Well, I think he left a present for you to go pick up "

On fighting: First grappling - no wet fur - just egos (and parental nightmares)
You recommend splitting them up into opposite ends (or some have separate fields)

True fight, wet fur, blood :yikes: - time to go. The best way that I've learned to break up a fight is by laughing and clapping really loudly and hard (distraction) - then just throw water on their azzes.

Again, more of my opinion.

So when you ask any or all of these and the person say F you, you nosey B, mind your own Fing bus. And at this time they let Franklin or Samson loose in the pen anyway.

You going to call the cops and say someone called you a B and not following the rules at the doggy park? How long do you think it will take for the cops to get there or you get your azz kicked?

 If you don't like the idea of a dog park, don't go...it's very simple. Don't worry about what other people do with their dogs.
