Dog/puppy food

I currently have a 5 yr old sheltie mix, 2 yr old min pin and and a 15 wk old mini dachschund. The two older dogs are eating weight management food and the puppy has puppy food. Everyone wants to eat the other ones food. Is there any food out there that I can feed everyone without making the older ones overweight and also giving the puppy the nutrients he needs? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Most weight management food uses fillers. It's better to use a good quality food and feed less. I feed my dogs California Natural but I'm in the process of switching them over to a grain free food. Biscuit is now eating Bravo Raw and I'm going to switch the other dogs over to Orijen..I think. I'd like to get them all on Bravo but right now the cost is a problem.

There are foods out there that you can use for all stages (puppy - senior).

You should get the dogs used to eating out of their bowl only so that the know where they eat and do not encroach on the other dogs' dishes/dinner.

Are you just feeding free choice? If so, I'd stop doing that. Can you separate them at meal times? They should learn to just eat out of their own bowls. If you could at least move the puppy farther away from the rest, it'd help. You may have to stand there and supervise for a few feedings. If an older dog tries to eat the puppy food, move it back to its own bowl. They should eventually learn.

No they don't get food all day. If I did that, the min pin wouldn't be able to move. I usually feed the older ones twice a day and the puppy gets fed 3 times a day. I usually try to keep them at their own bowls. I will try moving the puppy further away and guarding them. I have been feeding them while I am fixing dinner so I can keep an eye on them.

I also suggest seperating them at meal time. I will be difficult to find food for the need of each dog, since they are currently in different stages of development.

You can stop by Pepper's in Solomons for literature and free samples of the Natura foods- California Natural, Evo and Innova. There are also several lines we carry by special order.

I wouldn't think giving them all the same food would be a good idea. Your older dogs shouldn't be eating puppy food and the puppy shouldn't be eating adult food yet. I feed mine in their crates. I have a puppy and a 2 year old that has special food so she doesn't get bladder stones again. The puppy always checks her crate for leftovers. They will never be on the same food due to her medical need so they just eat in there.

It's not HaHa time....
We ran into the same issue when we brought the new puppy home. The two older dogs wanted her food and she wanted theirs. I feed the big dogs after I put the little one in her crate with her food. She has food with her at all times in the crate. The big dogs get fed at least 2x/day, but if there is any leftover when we get home from work, we put the bowls up so the puppy doesnt get the leftovers. And then the bowls go back once she is closed in the room for the night.

I know Evo and Innova are great, but what about Wellness? I have found pup on the Wellness CORE that has a great list of ingredients including probiotics. It claims to be good in accelerated recovery from surgery or illness, well this girl has been starved it seems and I just want to put weight on her. The vet says she has no parvo or any other illness (thank Dog).

Also, do you carry the Wellness CORE, if not can you order it for me?

My dogs are the same way. My beagle is on weight loss food and my German Shepherd is on her own food. I have to stand there like a security guard while they eat and pull thier bowls up if they stop eating.

Have heard good things about Wellness core...probably comparable to Innova; which also has probiotics. The distributor I use does not carry Wellness.
Some people use puppy food to put weight on a dog since it is usually a little higher in fat.
She was lucky to have found you!
