Despite a global outcry from animal rights activists, a dog was put to sleep in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on Wednesday because city officials said he looked like a pit bull.

The 7-year-old pug-nosed dog, Lennox, was at the center of a two-year legal battle between his owners and the Belfast City Council. The city's dog wardens seized Lennox in 2010, claiming he was a dangerous "pit bull-type dog," according to The Associated Press. Pit bulls are illegal in the United Kingdom.

Shame, there was a rumor that he had received amnesty.

Something is rotten here.

1). The so-called expert has been see on photos interacting with Lennox, and even being licked in the face by Lennox. She said she was afraid of him.

2). In-depth evaluations of not one, but two highly regarded canine behaviorists, who judged him friendly and posing no danger to anyone.

3). A confirmed adoptive home was ready in the Republic of Ireland as a "plan B" option.

4). An earlier "appeal" was heard not by an impartial party but by the same judge who handed down the original ruling.

5). Like you said, the family was not allowed to say goodbye.

6). The family was not allowed to take the body home to bury it. Instead they will be sent "some" ashes in the mail.

7). They kept Lennox in horrible conditions for those 2 years, just to kill him.
